While it’s not exactly a return to free, network TV, boxing has taken a small step forward in the area of mainstream exposure with the announcement that NBC will be debuting a new boxing series on their NBC Sports Network (formerly known as VERSUS).

Working in conjunction with Main Events and matchmaker/promoter, J Russel Peltz, the series will seek to make competitive, meaningful bouts featuring “premiere” talent at regional venues. Fighters from any and all promotional companies will be recruited to participate in the series.

Peltz, who is a Hall of Fame matchmaker and a mainstay in the Philadelphia fight scene, is widely recognized as one of the sport’s best at putting together exciting, quality, budget-minded contests.

As of right now, NBC Sports Network Fight Night is only booked for four dates (1/21, 3/24, 6/16, and 12/8).
