WBA super featherweight champ, Takashi Uchiyama (17-0, 14 KOs) looks to make the fourth defense of the title he won from Juan Carlos Salgado in 2010 against interim WBA champ, Jorge Solis (40-3-2, 29 KOs) at the Bunka Gym in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan on Saturday, December 31.
Uchiyama has been inactive since he beat fellow Japanese super featherweight, Takashi Miura, in January of 2011, but still sits atop most credible rankings in the fairly shallow 130 lb. division.
Solis, from Guadalajara, Mexico, won the WBA interim title against Likar Ramos in 2010 and has defended his title twice since then. In March, Solis was stopped in four rounds in an unsuccessful bid for Yuriorkis Gamboa’s WBA and IBF featherweight belts.
In the co-feature, Panama’s Celestino Caballero (35-4, 23 KOs) takes on Japan’s Satoshi Hosono (21-1, 15 KOs) in a twelve round contest.
The unorthodox, lanky Caballero last fought in October, successfully avenging a controversial July points loss to Jonathan Victor Barros with a twelve-round unanimous decision.
Hosono, who is the Japanese featherweight champ, has only one fight beyond the national/regional level– a 2010 majority decision loss to Thai WBA jr. featherweight titlist, Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym.
