Porsche-Arena, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany–Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16 KOs) retained his minor WBA heavyweight belt over top-ranked cruiserweight, Marco Huck (34-2, 25 KOs) via majority decision by scores of 114-114, 116-113, and 116-112.
A well-matched contest, the fight was close throughout with several ebbs and flows in the action. Russia’s Povetkin was obviously the better-skilled, more seasoned fighter, but Serbian-born German resident, Huck, proved himself tough and determined in applying consistent pressure throughout.
By the ninth round, Povetkin looked to be the more tired of the two, but Huck was unable to put down the defending titlist and grab the few extra points needed to win the belt. The Boxing Tribune scored the entertaining bout 114-114.
