I think it’s high time that former 4 division world champion, Erik “El Terrible” Morales retires from the sport. That, or perhaps a name change to “The Terrible” is in order…
That one was lost in translation.
If Erik is intent on continuing his downward spiraling career, how about at the very least a changing of his strength and conditioning coach?
Morales’s floppy, shapeless meat-suit was so out of sorts that he looked more like a Chernobyl by-product than an elite level athlete. Eric’s torso was so sloppy that he reminded me of when Hulk Hogan’s physique began to deteriorate and he started looking like a melted down tan-chocolate statue of himself. Morales’ loose skin poncho was spilling over his trunks. Moving on.
Whoever he was using obviously doesn’t know how to pass a “random” drug test like the professionals do.
Juan Manuel Marquez’ S&C coach is Angel Heredia, the admitted (and busted) steroids dealer that “helped” running phenomenon, Usain Bolt among others become super-human versions of themselves. In fact, Marquez’ body is more toned and defined now than when he was in his athletic prime.
Obviously I’m not advocating the use of illegal supplements in boxing.
What I’m saying is that if there is a level playing field across the board, then maybe everyone isn’t playing the same game.
Not only was whatever Morales taking not working but he could have saved himself mucho embarrassment by just coming in au naturel. I’m sure some people (such as myself) would likely be more forgiving if they knew that the future hall-of-famer showed up on his own merits and didn’t try to doctor his withering frame with some pseudo scientific help…
Perhaps it was something more sinister that was hidden from public record (like anabolic steroids), or maybe it was just a simple case of the beef in Mexico having been contaminated with the USADA (United States Anti Doping Administration) banned substance, clenbuterol.
Either way, too much carne asada does not an world-class fighter maintain.
At the end of the day, Morales’ best wins are without a doubt behind him. I hope he has saved enough to provide for his family because this is him officially cashing out on his name.
In other news…
-Leonard Ellerbe, (Floyd Mayweather’s long-time friend and adviser) was sitting ringside for the events from the new Barclays Center. Scouting a potential opponent for Floyd’s return? Hmm…
-Biggest pop of the evening went to an ivory cardigan clad “Iron” Mike Tyson.
-“Stay on your feet!” Solid advice heard given to Hassan N’dam in between rounds seven and eight. Hassan was down six times in the fight.
-Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin has what he refers to as “Cuban power”.
-There’s nothing but excellent match-ups to be had at middleweight. I can’t wait to see Quillin in action again…N’Dam, too.
-I take it back. Paulie loses to Ricky Hatton again.
