Ju-Hee Kim

In Seoul, South Korea, Ju-Hee Kim (17-1-1, 8 KO’s) successfully defended her four female light flyweight championships with a 10th round stoppage of Thailand’s Ploynapa Sakrungrueng (9-3, 0 KO). This was the second time Kim has defeated Sakrungrueng; the two met in March of this year with Kim winning by a sixth round TKO. Between bouts, Sakrungrueng managed to rack up four decision wins but the added experience didn’t do her much good. Kim holds the WIBA, WIBF, WBF, and GBU female light flyweight titles. She hasn’t lost since her fourth pro bout in 2002, and has held some form of a major world title since 2004. Sakrungrueng has failed in three world title attempts, this weekend’s fight included.

Mariana Juarez (36-6-3, 16 KO’s) made a successful return to the ring Saturday. The former WBC flyweight champion took a shut out eight round decision over Tenkai Tsunami (18-6, 7 KO’s) in Guadalajara, Mexico. Scores were 80-72 across the board. Just two months ago, Juarez dropped a 10 round decision to the lesser experienced Ava Knight, awarding Knight the WBC Diamond flyweight title. This was the third consecutive loss for Tsunami, who is also a former super flyweight titlist.

In a non-title bout in Uruguay, Chris Namus (18-3, 7 KO’s) evened the score against Lely Luz Florez (11-5, 6 KO’s) taking a ten round decision. The two last fought back in 2009 for the WBC light welterweight title, with Florez winning by first round TKO. She lost the title in her first defense and has been unsuccessful in two title tries since.

In Belgium, undefeated Sabrina Giuliani (10-0, 0 KO) won a six round decision over Gabriella Vicze (2-17-1, 0 KO). Gaelle Amand (8-0, 1 KO) beat Agota Ilko (8-3, 4 KO’s) over 10 rounds in France, winning the vacant EBU featherweight title.

At the time of this writing, we are awaiting results for three world title bouts scheduled for Monday: in the Dominican Republic, two titles are at stake as IBF featherweight champion Dahiana Santana (30-6, 14 KO’s) defends against Helen Joseph (11-1-1, 16 KO’s) in Joseph’s first try at a world title belt. Also on the card IBF super bantamweight champion Katy Wilson Castillo (16-1, 9 KO’s) defends against Maribel Santana (12-10-1, 5 KO’s). In Tokyo, Japan, Momo Koseki (13-2-1, 3 KO’s) defends the WBC atom weight title against Saemi Hanagata (7-2-1, 3 KO’s), in Hanagata’s first title bout.
