On Saturday, June 29th WBA & IBA Middleweight Champion, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin will defend his titles against Britain’s Matthew “The Mack Knife” Macklin. The scheduled 12-round bout will be aired on HBO’s Boxing After Dark series beginning at 6:45 PM/PST live from the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
Golovkin(26-0, 23 KO’s) will be fighting for the third time this year, coming off of wins over Nobuhiro Ishida and Gabriel Rosado, respectively, while also riding on a 12 consecutive stoppage streak. Macklin(29-4, 20 KO’s), meanwhile, is back on the big stage and getting his third crack at the chance of becoming a world title holder. Macklin has been unsuccessful in his previous two bids at winning a title, suffering losses to Germany’s Felix Sturm and Middleweight kingpin, Sergio Martinez.
