An ugly mismatch headlined this week’s Friday Night Fights card from the Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey as Javier Fortuna (22-0, 16 KOs) blew right through hapless, hopeless Miguel Zamudio (25-2-1, 13 KOs) with a brutal first round knockout.fnf2

The 23-year-old Fortuna, who lost his WBA interim featherweight title on the scale, came out swinging while his tragically overmatched Mexican opponent, who could’ve picked up the vacant belt with a win, made things easy by throwing slow punches and keeping his chin up nice and high.

A left hand from Fortuna knocked Zamudio hard to the canvas near the 30-second mark of the first round and then the well-regarded prospect closed the show seconds later with a nearly identical left hand. The 21-year-old Zamudio would be taken from the ring on a stretcher, but appeared to be conscious as he left the ringside area.

In the co-feature, John Jackson (16-1, 14 KOs) proved to be too experienced and just, generally, too good for Cerresso Fort (16-1-1, 11 KOs), dominating the eight-round junior middleweight contest and taking the unanimous decision by scores of 77-75, 79-73, and 79-73.

Also, in a poor display of scoring, Emmanuel Lartei Lartey (15-0-1, 7 KOs) won a one-sided unanimous decision over Jonathan Batista (13-1, 6 KOs) in a fight he should’ve lost. The three judges’ scorecards read: 59-55, 59-56, 60-54.
