Yesterday it was announced that pound-for-pound staple and Filipino superstar Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao will face Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios on Saturday, November 24th(technically the 23rd in China, but will air at 9PM EST in the U.S.) at the Cotai Arena(Venetian Resort) in Macau, China. The scheduled 12-round welterweight main event with championship sanctioning pending and will be aired on HBO Pay-Per-View.
Pacquiao(54-5-2, 38 KO’s), is coming off back-to-back losses, including a controversial split decision loss to Timothy Bradley in June of last year, and more recently, a brutal knockout loss to rival Juan Manuel Marquez in December of last year. Pacquiao was rumored to be picking between Rios and Alvarado, whom had fought twice and split a win, with Alvarado avenging his first loss to Rios in March of this year. Pacquiao’s publicist, Fred Sternburg, stated that Manny chose Rios over Alvarado because of the style match-up, believing that a clash against Rios would produce more fireworks and is a fight that would be more captivating for the fans(rather than a fight between Pacquiao and Alvarado). As for Rios(31-1-1, 23 KO’s), he is coming off the first loss of his career in said last outing against Alvarado in March, earlier this year and looking to get back into the win column in the most lucrative fight of his career and his first fight at 147-pounds.
