The upcoming fight between Floyd Mayweather and Saul ‘Canalo’ Alvarez has already whipped up public interest of epic proportions, but not everyone has been impressed with the ensuring clamour of fans to be part of the build up to the biggest fight of 2013. When both fighters met up for a promotional face to face at the Alamo Plaza Texas on Monday, Texas land commissioner Jerry Patterson was unhappy at the perceived lack of respect shown to what he believes is hallowed ground.
“This would not happen at Gettysburg, Alamo Plaza is where Bowie and Travis fell” said Patterson.
“It should be treated as the hallowed ground that it is”.
Others see things very differently and many San Antonio natives believe that such publicity brings more people and therefore more tourism to the Alamo.
The Alamo was also used in the build up to the April showdown between Saul Alvarez and Austin Trout.
