Ioka, Takayama receive Japanese Honors

Friday night at the Tokyo Dome Hotel in Tokyo, Japan held its annual boxing awards. Undefeated WBA light flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka (14-0, 9 KO’s) took shared honors for the Fighting Spirit award, which was also awarded to WBC kazuto iokaflyweight champ Akira Yaegashi. IBF minimum weight titlist Katsunari Takayama (26-6, 10 KO’s) won the Award for Efforts.

Other awards :
Boxer of the Year: Shinsuke Yamanaka (WBC bantamweight champ)
Technique Award: Takashi Uchiyama (WBA super-feather champ)
Valuable Victory Award: Takashi Miura (WBC super-feather champ)
Knockout Award: Shinsuke Yamanaka
Rookie Award: Ryota Murata (Olympic gold medalist; 2-0, 2 KOs)
Fight of the Year: Takashi Uchiyama vs. Daiki Kaneko (Uchiyama came off the canvas to retain his WBA 130-pound title on December 31)
