After a hard fought 12 round split decision loss this past weekend, former WBA light welterweight and European lightweight titleholder Gavin Rees (37-4-1, 18 KO’s) in thinking about retirement.
Saturday night in Cardiff, Wales, Rees and Gary Buckland (28-3, 9 KO’s) put on a fight of the year caliber performance with Buckland edging out “The Rock” on the scorecards; the deciding card reading 115-114 in Buckland’s favor. While the victory was a good return for Buckland, who suffered a dramatic knockout loss to Stephen Smith last August, it marked the third consecutive defeat for Rees, who was stopped in five rounds by Adrien Broner a year ago and lost in 12 rounds to Anthony Crolla in June.
Rees told BBC Sport, “”I’ll have to go home and see what I’m doing first with my career, I’ve lost three in a row now and I’m nearly 34, so I’ll have to see what’s happening with that first, have a little rest with my family and see what’s happening then.”
