British welterweight Jerome “Wipe Out” Wilson (8-3, 2 KO’s) suffered a life threatening brain injury just over a week ago in his return bout against Serge Ambomo (4-0, 2 KO’s).  The boxer, who was in a medically induced coma has regained consciousness and is making great progress towards recovery.

“He is out of the coma and each day he seems to be getting stronger” promoter Dave Coldwell told BBC.com.  Calswell also stated that although the boxer cannot yet move or speak, he is aware of his surroundings and what people are saying to him.

He is being classified as “high dependency” by the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, where he’s been treated since his injury.
