Jermain Taylor: Over The Cuckoo’s Nest?

After the disturbing video of a gun-toting, smack-talking former middleweight champion, Jermain Taylor ran the it’s course on the web, one couldn’t help but wonder whether Taylor is punch drunk.

With a scheduled bout this coming Wednesday against IBF middleweight champion, Sam Soliman, and a recent involvement in a shooting case, Taylor should be laying low.

But he isn’t… far from it. Maybe his PR team created this distraction. If there isn’t a “how the f*ck did Jermain Taylor get a title shot” petition, maybe I should start one. Would you sign it?

Maybe this is an audition for a VH1 reality show after boxing. There’s a reality show based on a group of rednecks from Louisiana, The Party Down South. It’s based around a group of white folks who get drunk and fight. Maybe they could use a country brotha like Jermain. Maybe Dr. Drew or Couples Therapy could use his celebrity.

Quite honestly, it’s sad to see how far the champ has fallen. Fans fell in love with his humble nature, over-looking his stumbling problem.

Even with a four-fight winning streak against limited competition, it’s hard to envision Taylor beating Soliman.

It’s been seven years since Kelly Pavlik ended Taylor’s middleweight run. Luckily for those fans of “Bad Intentions,” Soliman only hits hard enough to hurt momentarily.
