Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna vs. Miguel Zamudio (April 19, 2013)

By Ted Sares

“…In my first year in Copa Romana, I participated [at] 16 years of age. I was one of the youngest. I won bronze. Next time there, I won silver…”– Javier Fortuna

This fight was more massacre than mugging, as the exciting junior lightweight Fortuna (21-0 at the time) literally bolted across the ring at the opening bell and began a sustained beatdown that did not end until poor Zamudio (25-1-1) was carried out of the ring in a stretcher.

Fortuna was a member of the Dominican National Team. During his amateur career he won a Pan American silver medal and a gold medal at the Dominican National Championships. Among his many outstanding professional wins, Fortuna has a first round knockout over prospect Yuandale Evans and a second round knockout over former IBF and IBO featherweight champion Cristaball Cruz.

Since this slaughter, Zamudio has somehow managed to go 8-5 but has lost every time he stepped up.

Here is the fight and be forewarned, it is a scary one>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGggoQbWhF4
