Paul Magno’s Daily Grind: Thursday, July 29th

…No Mayweather/Pacquiao Grind today…

* Elio Rojas has pulled out of his scheduled September 11 unification bout with Yuriorkis Gamboa with a shoulder injury. Orlando Salido, who is also a belt holder at 126 lbs., will take Rojas’ place. Salido was the first choice to face Gambia back in July, but had to pull out due to a cut suffered in a May 15th encounter.

…Rojas would’ve been a tougher opponent, but Salido will be more exciting. HBO wanted to replace Rojas with Celestino Caballero, but Gamboa’s promoter, Bob Arum, nixed the idea in his ongoing 2010 campaign to deny the fans every fight they want this year…

* Also on September 11th, Wladimir Klitschko will defend his titles against Samuel Peter. Klitschko and Peter have come to terms and will be squaring off in a rematch of their 2005 fight which saw Wladimir get dropped three times over twelve rounds.

* After several rumors and attempts at finding opponents, Felix Sturm has finally found an opponent for his September 4th middleweight title defense in Germany. Giovanni Lorenzo will get the nod after Marco Antonio Rubio and Peter Manfredo Jr. both withdrew their names from consideration due to Sturm’s management insisting on options for future fights should they beat Sturm. Ricardo Mayorga was also rumored as an opponent.

* Universum will broadcast boxing’s first 3D telecast this Saturday from the o2 Arena in Hamburg, Germany. Great news for those itching to get up close and personal with Sebastian Zbik…

…Grinding to another day…
