Paul Magno’s Monday Rant (10/4/10)

Yeah, I know. Last week there was no Monday Rant.

I’d like to say that I had calmed down and was dedicating myself to the more pleasant side of the sport, but the truth of the matter is that I just ate too much and fell asleep. But this week I’m back with a bad attitude, a few gripes, and some bombs to lob.

Rant #1:
There are people out there in cyberspace trying to convince the world that the November 13th Cowboys Stadium 154 lb. title fight farce will actually be something to behold. These are the same people who alternate between saying that Margarito probably didn’t know he had loaded wraps and that, even if he did know, he deserves a second chance.

You know who you are…

Stop trying to convince yourselves that Antonio Margarito will somehow put on a  miraculous, gritty, crowd-pleasing performance against Manny Pacquiao. Creepy-crawlies like Margarito tend not to go down with noble, heroic good grace. They usually grab at a sack of cash and look for the quickest, easiest way out.

The jig is up for Margarito and he knows it. Even should he do the impossible and beat Pacquiao, he knows that the cat’s out of the bag as to how he was able to rip ears off, crush rib cages, and bash noses with off-balance arm punches.

Expect Margarito to look for the exit when things start heating up and also look for plenty of angry fans afterward.

Rant #2: Paulie Malignaggi, just shut the hell up already.

Your greatest asset is the ability to talk so much BS that people forget your last impressive performance was over three years ago.

Lou DiBella did an absolute miracle with you. He got you, a defense-minded fly swatter, HBO and Showtime dates despite being beaten to a pulp by every top fighter you ever faced. DiBella deserves an ass kissing, not a boot in the rear like you’ve been giving him.

So, Paulie…from one Sicilian (ok, half-Sicilian) to another…Vaffanculo!

Rant #3:
This last one goes out to Bob Arum who keeps promising Nonito Donaire vs. Fernando Montiel, but takes no steps to ever actually make the fight.

Now, supposedly, the fight is scheduled to take place sometime in the first quarter of 2011. But we’ve heard this before and the act is getting tiresome.

Half of this rant also goes to the boxing fans and media who buy this baloney and allow themselves to be placated until they see that both fighters have signed to fight someone else. Then, Arum will assure us once again that Donaire-Montiel will happen soon.

It’s no wonder Arum thinks we’re all idiots.

I’ll be on vacation the next two weeks…So, expect two guest ranters in my place.

Hugs and Kisses.
