WBO cruiserweight champ and German star, Marco Huck (31-1, 23 KOs) will defend his title against Italian former cruiserweight titlist, Giacobbe Fragomeni April 2nd at the Gerry Weber Stadium in Germany.
Huck’s last contest was a controversial split decision victory over Denis Lebedev in December, which many observers scored in favor of the Russian brawler. This will be Huck’s sixth title defense of the belt he took from Victor Emilio Ramirez in 2009. Prior to that, Huck was a long-reigning European cruiserweight champ and had tried, unsuccessfully, in 2007 to take the IBF strap from American, Steve Cunningham. Huck is currently ranked #1 in the cruiserweight division by The Boxing Tribune World Rankings system.
The 41-year old Fragomeni briefly became WBC cruiserweight titlist by winning the vacant title against Rudolf Kraj in late 2008, but has gone 1-2-1 in his last four, drawing with and eventually losing to Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, as well as dropping the WBC strap to former light heavyweight champion, Zsolt Erdei. Fragomeni is ranked 16th in The Boxing Tribune World Rankings.
