Plaza De Toros El Paseo, San Luis Potosí, Mexico– In a total mismatch, former long-reigning jr. flyweight champion, Edgar Sosa (43-6, 26 KOs) walked right through a hapless Julio Paz (12-1, 4 KOs), stopping him in one round.
Paz, billed as the South American Flyweight Champion by the WBC prior to the contest, had never fought outside of his native Uruguay and had only fought one fighter with a winning record in his twelve prior bouts.
Sosa never batted an eye. He walked Paz down and ended the fight with a straight right hand that dropped his opponent. Paz’s corner and the referee had seen enough, waving off the fight simultaneously.
On the undercard, South Africa’s Simpiwe Vetyeka (23-1, 13 KOs) beat Mexico’s Giovanni Caro (22-9-4, 17 KOs) in a jr. featherweight contest via unanimous decision with scores of 116-112 all around.
