At the GAP Disco in Argentina, Daniela Bermudez (15-2-2, 4 KO’s) retained the interim WBA super flyweight title, taking a 10 round decision over Judith Rodriguez (6-5, 4 KO’s). Bermudez has held the interim belt since March of last year and also holds the WBO strap in the bantamweight division. That title she won this past May, stopping Nessi Torres in one round. Friday win puts her on a 10 fight winning streak. Rodriguez has now lost three world title bids. These two fought once before; in May of 2012 they met for the same interim title with Bermudez also winning that contest by 10 round decision.
The WBC featherweight champion, Jelena Mrdjenovich (30-9-1, 15 KO’s) took part in a non-title bout in Canada, stopping Karen Dulin (2-14) in two rounds, it was Dulin’s eighth straight loss. Mrdjenovich originally won the WBC title by stopping Linsday Garbatt in one round back in March of 2012. Six months later she lost the title in her first defense to Melissa Hernandez, but met up with Hernandez again eight months later and regained the title with a six round technical decision. She’s also held the WIBA featherweight and super featherweight titles.
In Rhode Island, U.S.A., undefeated Tori Nelson (7-0-3) defeated Aleksandra Lopes (10-2, 1 KO) over 10 rounds to win the vacant WIBA welterweight title. Nelson was coming off back-to-back draws with Teresa Perozzi which the WBA and WBC middleweight titles were on the line. Nelson was the last owner of the WBC and WIBA middleweight titles. Lopes has never held a world title, but was on a 10 fight winning streak after losing her pro debut in 2009.
