Controversial judge, C.J. Ross, who scored last Saturday’s Floyd Mayweather clinic a nail-biting 114-114 draw, has decided to take a leave of absence and, likely, could never officiate again.
The 64-year-old Ross, who earned $8,000 for her pathetic non-performance, was due to meet with NSAC chairman, Bill Brady to discuss the scorecard, but instead opted to ask for a leave of absence.
But before fans and media give themselves a pat on the back for having chased away Mrs. Magoo, it should be noted that NSAC executive director, Keith Kizer, was squarely in Ross’ corner and that, likely, no disciplinary action would’ve been taken against the woman who also mucked up the Pacquaio-Bradley fight in 2012 with an equally bizarre 115-113 tally in favor of a seemingly outgunned Timothy Bradley.
Again, as we have written previously in the pages of The Boxing Tribune, the call should not be for better Nevada commission judges. Rather, it should be for a better regulatory body to oversee the officiating process. It has become painfully obvious that cronyism and an inherently incestuous relationship between politicians, promoters, and the commissions have created an irreversibly compromised system that desperately needs to be replaced.
Until the day we have a truly independent centralized authority in boxing, there will be no shortage of judges who, either through incompetence or corruption, continue to issue mind-boggling decisions.
