Undefeated lightweight prospect Felix “El Diamante” Verdejo (9-0, 6 KO’s) will make his return to the ring Saturday, January 25th at Madison Square Garden. The San Juan native will be facing Lauro Alcantar (8-0, 1 KO) in a non-televised six round contest on an HBO card headlined by Mikey Garcia vs Juan Carlos Burgos.

The amateur standout suffered a minor setback last month, being forced to pull out of his first scheduled contest against Alcantar due to swelling on the knuckles of his left hand, an injury said to have occurred during his November 23rd win over Petchsamuthr Duanaaymukdahan. He held a media workout earlier this week and appeared to be in excellent physical condition.

Verdejo represented Puerto Rico in the 2012 London Olympics, and signed with Top Rank shortly after. He made his professional debut in December of 2012; a four round decision over Leonardo Chavez, and won eight more contests in 2013 before the injury forced him to take an extender break. Verdejo told ESPNDeportes.com that a similar injury occurred to his right hand during the Olympics.
