As you would in 2014, in our ultra-connected modern boxing culture, WBO junior welterweight champion, Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16KOs) has taken to his personal Twitter page and issued a challenge to fellow Top Rank all-action fighter, Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios (31-2-1, 23KOs).
“We can make the fight…” Provodnikov Tweets “[But] there is an issue with weight. I’m willing to put the title on the line, can you make 140??”
Rios responded the following morning “I’m all in for this fight and yes I can make 140 to or what ever weight I m ready”
Ruslan Provodnikov is coming off a signature win in which he scored a technical stoppage over former Rios conqueror, “Mile High” Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23KOs). Brandon Rios lost the fight to Alvarado, but managed to secure a date with Manny Pacquiao on the other side of the world (for him) in Macao, China. Pacquiao battered Rios for all 12 rounds as the Mexican-American was unable to ever mount any kind of offense.
Brandon Rios will be looking to prove himself to his fans (and most likely himself) that he is can still be a champion by having a war with Provodnikov. His trainer, Robert Garcia has talked openly about how dangerous a fight between the two would be.
