Antonio Tarver has pulled out of his scheduled September 29 heavyweight bout with Johnathon Banks on Fox Sports 1 with a fractured thumb.
The former light heavyweight world champ said that the injury was actually sustained in training more than two weeks ago and that he had tried to work through it, but ultimately felt that it was best to pull out of the bout. This contest would’ve been his first under the guidance of Al Haymon.
“I’m very disappointed I won’t get to face Johnathon Banks, but hopefully we will be able to reschedule this fight with him for a later date,” Tarver said via press release. “I was ready to make a statement with this fight, and I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
The televised program will go on, however, with the co-featured Joseph Diaz (11-0, 7 KOs) vs. Raul Hidalgo (22-11, 16 KOs) 10-round junior featherweight bout moving into the main event slot.
