Earlier last week, it was announced that no. 1 mandatory contender to Guillermo Rigondeaux’s WBO junior featherweight title, Chris Avalos, had chosen not to take his title shot.

On Friday, Avalos’ promoter, Top Rank, announced that Avalos was pulling out of the Rigondeaux fight in order to pursue a bout with the UK’s Carl Frampton, who is the IBF junior featherweight titlist.

“Chris and his team have decided to pursue the IBF champion, Carl Frampton,” Top Rank vice president Carl Moretti told ESPN. “Both champions, Frampton and Rigondeaux, present difficult challenges in the ring, but there is no comparison as to who presents the better financial opportunity. Not even close. Once Frampton heals from his injury, we look forward to challenging him for his title.”

There has been no word yet from the WBO as to who will be next in line to challenge Rigondeaux.
