WBO president, Paco Valcarcel has admitted that the ridiculous 119-109 score issued by Spanish judge, Fernando Laguna Saturday for Arthur Abraham in his bout against Paul Smith was way off the mark.
Actually, using his own words, Laguna “srcewed up.”
“Regarding Abraham v Smith, I assure you that I review each and every scorecard for WBO title fights,” said Valcarcel.
“Fernando Laguna screwed up on Saturday night and 35 years in boxing have taught me that anyone can have a bad night – but not two. Our WBO officials should be aware of this.”
In a bout that The Boxing Tribune scored 114-114 and most on-record media also saw as a close encounter, Laguna issued his 119-109 score, which was flanked by nearly as ridiculous 117-111 scores from the other two judges.
Although the screw=up as been admitted and Smith’s team is aggressively pursuing justice and/or a rematch, it’s not likely that any action will be taken regarding this matter.
A big money, all-Germany bout now awaits as Abraham may likely face the winner of the upcoming Felix Sturm-Robert Stieglitz bout.
