22-year-old unbeaten junior welterweight prospect, Frankie Gomez (18-0, 13 KOs) has renewed his promotional contract with Golden Boy– a move that assumes an exaggerated level of importance as GBP president, Oscar De la Hoya, works to piece back together a stable ripped to shreds by an apparent collusion between former GBP CEO Richard Schaefer and powerful advisor, Al Haymon.
Immediately after the re-signing, Gomez affirmed to media that he was “100 percent loyal to Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions” and that he was looking forward to taking the next step in his development as a fighter.
The prospect from East Los Angeles most recently defeated one-time top prospect Vernon Paris via one-sided unanimous decision last July in, perhaps, his most significant win to date.
Gomez stands behind Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Bernard Hopkins as the biggest talent currently used by Golden Boy and actually signed to a Golden Boy contract
