Vs. Saul Alvarez
Saul Alvarez is a big name fighter who is having trouble of his own finding a major big fight since his defeat by Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year. The solution to Alvarez’s problem is Gennady Golovkin, who is of course hungry for a big fight of his own. In the past, Golovkin has said that he could go down to the light-middleweight division for the right fight, so this could accommodate Alvarez, or else Alvarez could finally take the leap up to middleweight, to which his body would certainly be better suited.
Whether Alvarez would be willing to face such a dangerous fighter, as Golovkin remains the main question. Facing Floyd Mayweather is one thing, Mayweather for all his brilliance is not a devastating puncher in the Golovkin mode, a showdown with the GGG man may well be far more painful for Alvarez than the Mayweather fight. So, with this in mind, don’t expect Alvarez to run into a clash with Gennady any time soon.
