Porsche Arena, Stuttgart, Germany– In an entertaining super middleweight clash, 4-time middleweight champ Felix Sturm (39-4-3, 18 KOs) battled 2-time super middleweight titlist Robert Stieglitz (47-4-1, 27 KOs) to a draw over twelve rounds.
Stieglitz came out strong for this all-Germany challenge and seemed to rock Sturm with some solid shots in the first two rounds. Sturm, to his credit, rode out the storm and fired back, landing solid shots that eventually stopped Stieglitz’s offensive blitz.
But the fight retained this ebb and flow narrative throughout, with Stieglitz bulling forward and Sturm answering back to stop the assault.
The close, competitive and well-fought bout was capped off with appropriate scores of 115-113 once for each fighter and a 114-114 draw-maker.
Given the big box office and the high entertainment level of this contest, there’s little doubt that a rematch may be in order, with the winner possibly meeting Arthur Abraham at some point later next year.
