Chiapas, Mexico- WBO/WBC Bantamweight Champion, Fernando Montiel (43-2-2, 33 KOs), put an exclamation mark on his claims of Bantamweight dominance as he stopped Panamanian, Rafael Concepcion (14-5-2, 8 KOs) in the third round of their scheduled twelve.
Concepcion, who had previously given Nonito Donaire and Jorge Arce tough battles, was dropped twice in the second round with quick left hooks. In the third, Concepcion was absolutely laid out with a rocket of a right hook that caused the referee to immediately wave off the fight without a count.
Montiel was originally scheduled to fight number one contender, Eric Morel, but Morel backed out with an injury a little over a week before the contest.
Next up for Montiel is a rumored Fall match-up with Nonito Donaire.
