…Back to the Grind…
* Floyd Mayweather has finally spoken. In a very brief statement given at a charity basketball game in Miami, Florida, Mayweather indicated that boxing was not on his mind at all. “I’m not really thinking about boxing right now,” Mayweather said. “I’m just relaxing. I fought about 60 days ago, so I’m just enjoying myself, enjoying life, enjoying my family and enjoying my vacation.”
* In an interview on Mexican TV, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. indicated that he had been told that a Fall match-up with Miguel Cotto was a real possibility. Of course, if this statement has any merit it may be a sign that Top Rank is leaning towards Antonio Margarito as an opponent for Manny Pacquiao in November.
* Some noteworthy “Off Page One” fight results over the weekend: Denis Lebedev KO2 Alexander Alexeev…Antonio DeMarco KO2 Daniel Attah…Juan Carlos Reveco RTD 5 Armando Torres…AJ Banal KO5 Big Yoo….
* There were two sad losses in the boxing community over the last few days:
UK Promoter Frank Warren’s brother, Mark Warren, apparently committed suicide over the weekend by leaping from an apartment building in London. He was 43.
Late last week, Allan Green’s younger sister, Raven, passed away in an automobile accident. She was 18.
Our deepest sympathies go out to both the Green and Warren families.
