WBA Super World bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno (30-1-1, 10 KO) will defend his title against veteran Lorenzo Parra (31-2-1, 18 KO) on Friday Night. This under-the-radar, but meaningful title fight will take place at Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Panama.
After whispers of a possible unification bout with newly-crowned WBO/WBC bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire never materialized, Moreno will return to action against Parra, the veteran Venezuelan. Moreno has not fought since last August’s split decision victory over Nehomar Cermeno, and is looking for another win to keep himself on Donaire’s radar. Moreno hold wins over Tomas Rojas (UD 10), and Volodymyr Sydorenko (UD 12, SD 12).
Parra, the former WBA flyweight titlist, is coming off last September’s disappointing draw with newly-crowned WBO super bantamweight champion Jorge Arce. A point deduction made the difference on the scorecard that ruled the bout a draw. Parra hold wins over Eric Morel, Takefumi Sakata (twice), and his 2 losses have come to Sakata and Celestino Caballero.
