Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse (28-2, 26 KOs) has replaced countryman, Jorge Barrios on the September 17 Star Power undercard against Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KOs) for the WBC jr. welterweight title.
Barrios was unable to get the proper documentation to leave Argentina, a result of the fighter’s mounting legal issues, which include sexual assault, battery, and aggravated manslaughter for the 2010 vehicular death of a 20-year-old pregnant woman.
Matthysse has lost two disputed split decisions, against Zab Judah and Devon Alexander, in previous efforts in the US. The 28-year-old power puncher represents a significant step up in class from naturally smaller and inactive Barrios.
