Centro de Usos Multiples, Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico– Hernan Marquez (32-2, 5 KOs) avoided engaging in another war with Panama’s Luis Concepcion (23-3, 18 KOs) by stopping the former world champ in the first round of their WBA world flyweight title bout Saturday night.
Reigning titlist, Marquez, would drop his challenger three times en route to the first round stoppage, causing most of the damage with a wide, but bone-shattering left hook.
Concepcion would make an effort to battle back, but was clearly buzzed and on unsteady legs from the moment of the first knockdown.
After the bout, Marquez expressed a desire to take on former junior flyweight kingpin, Giovani Segura.
