IBF super featherweight titlist, Juan Carlos Salgado (24-1-1, 16 KOs) makes the first defense of his belt this Saturday, December 10 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico against hometown fighter, Miguel Beltran Jr. (26-1, 17 KOs).

Salgado, who won the vacant IBF strap against Argenis Mendez in September, is actually a two-time super featherweight titlist with his first reign beginning with his shocking 2009 Upset of the Year, KO 1 win over WBA champ, Jorge Linares and ending when he lost via twelfth round TKO to Japan’s Takashi Uchiyama in his very next bout. The 26-year-old native of Mexico City is ranked 4th in the world at super featherweight by The Boxing Tribune’s unbiased ranking system .

His opponent, the 22-year-old Beltran, is relatively untested with his biggest bouts being a split decision win over Miguel Roman in 2009 and a KO 10 loss to Joksan Hernandez in 2010.
