Boxing Rankings Update: Santa Cruz moves into Top 10, Trout, Nietes move up, More…

Several ranked fighters were in action this week, but only two changes in the rankings were registered:

Leo Santa Cruz, with a dominant win over Vusi Malinga to capture the vacant IBF bantamweight title debuts at #10 in the 118 lb. class. Rolly Matsushita, a Filipino based in Japan, has been moved out of the Top 10 to make room for Santa Cruz. Normally, only a win over a Top 10 fighter or a move up following a ranked fighter’s inactivity would result in a Top 10 debut. However, Santa Cruz’s win was a very significant one and greater than anything on Matsushita’s resume.

Junior middleweight, Austin Trout moves up two slots, from #7 to #5 with his decision win over Delvin Rodriguez. Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto move down one slot apiece to accommodate the change.

Junior flyweight, Donnie Nietes moved up one spot, from #4 to #3 with a win over Felipe Salguero.

Lateef Kayode and Antonio Tarver, ranked #5 and #7, respectively, stay in their same spots following a draw on Saturday.

At light heavyweight, Beibut Shumenov, remains at #6 despite scoring a one-sided unanimous decision in defense of his WBA title against Enrique Ornelas. Tenth-ranked Karo Murat stays at #10 since his victory on Saturday was outside of the light heavyweight weight class.

Super flyweight, Juan Jose Montes stays at #9 because his draw with Victor Zaleta was contested outside of the 115 lb. weight class.

WBO strawweight champ, Moises Fuentes, also stays at his #8 spot despite defending his title via KO1 against Julio Cesar Felix.
