Interim WBA junior middleweight champ Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KOs) has been elevated to full champ by the WBA.
The highly-regarded Cuban won the vacant interim title by stopping Alfredo Angulo in June of 2013 and then defended the belt successfully against former world titlist Austin Trout six months later.
The ruling by the WBA now makes Lara’s May 2 bout against Ishe Smith a world title contest.
