According to Kell Brook’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, a deal is close to being finalized that would pit his fighter making an IBF welterweight title defense against the former junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan in a huge Wembley Stadium blockbuster next year.
“Khan obviously wants a fight with Floyd Mayweather, as does everyone in the division,” Hearn wrote in his Mail Online column, “but he knows that while that fight might never happen, even if it did he would make more money fighting Kell.
“Everything so far has been very straightforward and I am in talks with Wembley over a May date. They want us back there as soon as possible after the success of Froch-Groves – I have no doubt in my mind that we would fill that stadium again. I hope to have this tied up in the next month or so.”
Brook and Khan have long been the subject of fight rumors, but those rumors were usually nipped in the bud by Khan, who previously had bigger deals on the table than a bout with countryman, Brook. Now, however, with Brook defeating Shawn Porter to take the IBF title and faced with his own falling stock as a main stage fighter, Khan is thought to be much more willing to take this big money proposal.
Brook is currently scheduled to fight a homecoming bout on December 6.
