New Zealand Rugby international, Sonny Williams has been given the blessing of the New Zealand Rugby board to fight on January 29th. Lets hope he is not another Anthony Mundine.

If there is anyone out there who still questions Amir Khans’s chin or heart, they really need to stop reading the Boxing Scene forums and get a grip on reality.

Victor Ortiz has nobody to blame but himself. He needs to stop believing his own hype and he needs to stop taking rounds off. If he wants to be taken serious again, how about demand Maidana? HBO will buy it, the fans will watch it and maybe, just maybe, Ortiz can gain redemption.

James Degale put on an absolute clinic in the UK last weekend. Let’s hope he continues to work hard and doesn’t fall the way of most other UK prospects.

Missing posters have been slapped over milk cartons all around the USA. The person they’re looking for is Chad Dawson. It’s a pity nobody in America recognised him from the photo. They also didn’t really care he was missing.

Frank Warren intends to do another bumper UK bill sometime in March. Do us a favour and make sure its not complete crap this time please, Frank.

Normally by this time of year we already have the majority of February/March fights lined up. So far we have Bradley v Alexander and the possibility of Martinez v Zbik. We don’t even have a date for the Super 6 Semi Finals. Not good Boxing, not good.

Lets move onto the fights.

Gennady Golovkin defends his WBA trinket against, does anyone really care?

Dimitriy Salitia is back and promoting his own show. Knowing the WBA, he will be Amir Khan’s Mandatory next week.

Tavoris Cloud defends his IBF title against Fulgencio Zuniga on Friday night. This has been a wonderfully promoted promotion. I found out by looking at Boxrec. Back in the day, Don King was the man. He knew how to promote fighters and put on great shows. Seems as though he has forgotten how to promote his young guns.

On the same card, Heavyweight prospect Olandier Solis takes on Ray Austin in an Eliminator for the next shot at Vitali Klitschko. I actually can not complain about this fight. Which in itself is just plain weird.

Paul Magno touched on this yesterday, Ricardo Mayorga is indeed back in the ring Friday night. I cant wait.

Luis Lazarte defends his IBF trinket against Ulises Solis in Argentina. It is another good fight. Lazarte annexed the title from Carlos Tamara and this is his second defence.

Erik Morales fights Francisco Lorenzo. Why cant Morales retire and accept his greatness already? Why do all-time great fighters, true legends have to continue when its clear they are not the force they were? I have nothing against a guy trying to make a living, but Morales just needs to put in the tape of his third fight with Pacquiao to see he is not the same fighter. Erik, the fans around the world love you, show us some love back be retiring after this, please.

Alexander Povetkin completes his journey from highly rated prospect to a nobody on Saturday night as he “fights” Nicolai Firtha. I have never seen anyone quite like Povetkin, he has gone from beating Chris Byrd and Eddie Chambers to fighting absolute nobodies. Great job, Teddy Atlas… well done. Idiots.

Marco Huck takes on Denis Lebedev in what is frankly a great fight for the division. This was supposed to be part of the Cruiserweight Super Six. It may still be and if it is, who cares, it’s a great fight.

An Old guy is taking on a younger guy. The younger guy should beat him, the younger guy has the advantage in every area bar experience, but one of two things are going to happen: the older guy will prove us all wrong yet again and make fools out of us or he will prove us right and still find a way to win. Either way, never bet against B-hop. I am not counting Pascal out, but I have had fifteen years of Bernard proving me wrong, I don’t fall for it anymore.

I’ll have something special for you guys next week, see you then.
