Miguel Vazquez Defends Lightweight Title Against Ameth Diaz, Saturday January 21st

IBF lightweight champion, Miguel Vazquez (29-3, 13 KOs) looks to make the third defense of his title this Saturday, January 21st against Panama’s Ameth Diaz (30-10, 21 KOs) at the Coliseo Olimpico de la UG, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

The stylist from Guadalajara, Vazquez, ranked fifth in the world in the unbiased Boxing Tribune World Rankings, won the vacant IBF strap against Korean pressure fighter, Ji Hoon Kim in August of 2010 and has made successful defenses against Ricardo Dominguez and Leonardo Zappavigna. In his last bout,Vazquez stopped journeyman, Marlon Aguilar, in the second round of a non-title contest.

Diaz, ranked 14th by The Boxing Tribune, has held a plethora of minor and regional titles, but has yet to fight for a world belt. In his biggest career bouts, the 28-year-old came up short in title eliminators to Joan Guzman (UD 12) in 2008 and Ji Hoon Kim (TKO 1) in 2010. Diaz has also been in the ring with the likes of Souleymane M’baye (L TKO 4), Fernando Angulo (UD 7), and Leonardo Zappavigna (TKO 5).
