The Location:

The Theater inside Madison Square Garden, New York City

The Fight:

Ivan Calderon (34-0-1, 6 KOs) retained his WBO Jr. Flyweight title via one-sided unanimous decision against Jesus Iribe (17-7-4, 10 KOs) Saturday evening. Despite scoring a flash knockdown over Calderon in the second round, Iribe was clearly over matched and was never really in the bout. The judges’ scoring reflected the one-sided nature of the bout: 118-109, 118-109, 116-111. The Boxing Tribune scored the fight 118-109, also for Calderon.

The Grades:

Match-up: C-

Other Action of Note on the Card:

Japanese Flyweight, Takashi Okada (2-0-1, 1 KO), scored a 4-round upset over highly-regarded Puerto Rican Olympian, McWilliams Arroyo (3-1, 3KOs). The action was close, but a knockdown for Okada in the second round made the difference in the unanimous decision victory for Okada.

The opening bout of the Fox Sports televised broadcast featured Jr. Welterweight, Gabriel Bracero (10-0) walking away with a shutout unanimous decision over  Julius Edmonds (7-7). All three judges had the 6-rounder scored 60-54

Glen Tapia (7-0, 5 KO’s) beat Nick Runningbear (4-3, 1 KO) via TKO in round 2.
